After identifying Bitcoin’s more asset-oriented positioning, scholars began to compare Bitcoin with traditional assets, such as gold, and investigated whether it could be used as an effective money market hedging tool alongside Bitcoin’s safe-haven attributes. The strong outbreak of Bitcoin, especially in the aftermath of the COVID-19 crisis, has led to more research focusing on the linkage between Bitcoin, as a part of the global financial markets, and particular financial asset classes (e.g., stocks, currencies, foreign exchange).
