NFT is a unique digital asset that represents a tangible object with a unique identifying code on blockchain. A painting by art collective Tamen 他們 was converted into an NFT, which are increasingly used to digitally represent valuable items such as art and music. One of the key benefits is the ability to validate the provenance and authenticity of the art piece on blockchain, thus helping to reduce fake artworks and forgeries. Macey & Sons has been working closely with global law firm DLA Piper to tokenise art pieces on TOKO, the firm’s tokenisation platform. During the process, all legal documents including the certificate of authenticity, and ownership and copyright of a piece are embedded into the NFT, meaning they can easily be transferred to a subsequent buyer. Macey & Sons has established an important precedent for similar transactions in the future.
